The Oklahoma indwelling, known as the “Queen of Rockabilly,” will perform Feb. 9 at the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C., where she gave a much-hyped concert last year. Showtime is 8 p.m. with doors toe an hour earlier.
Jackson, 74, worked with rock star and former White Stripes guitarist-cantor Jack White on her latest album, “The Party Ain't Over,” which helped expose her to a new, young audience.
One of the first female swing stars, Jackson made her mark in the 1950s with such growling, up-tempo classics as “Let's Have a Party” and “Fujiyama Mama.” She later had a collaborate b keep waiting of country hits that included “Tears Will Be the Chaser for Your Wine” and “Fancy Satin Pillows.”
Jackson succinctly dated Elvis Presley in the 1950s, and Bob Dylan once called her “an atomic bomb with lipstick.”
Tickets for the concert went on exchange last week and are available for $15 at the Orange Peel box office or online at www.theorangepeel.net. Day of show tickets, if available, will be $17.
