Over the moon new Yoomia
Step aside Vanessa Mae, there's a new violinist in town who has the looks and talent to rocococo with you.
"I am an original to the gist," says Korean-born and Christchurch-based musician Yoomia.
"It is tempting and much easier to be just another classically trained violinist with an galvanizing violin, playing crossover classical. I have been compared to Vanessa Mae since I was 14, purely because of my heritage and the fact we both play the violin.
"My uniqueness comes from my titanic variety of influences, experiences and travels. Even though I have a strong classical background- my passion is in improvisation, electronica, tango, Latin, gypsy and funk.
"I am not only a Thespian playing and covering other people's compositions but I write music also. I am influenced by all 30 plus countries I was lucky enough travel to and worked in."
Yoomia, whose music studio was destroyed in the February Christchurch, has a "passionate baroque gypsy heart" and hopes to have an EP out in the next couple of months.
